Borromäum Extension Salzburg
The task was to perceive and architecturally embody the growing and changing demands on the school . The entrance situation is to be reconsidered. Away from the small and somewhat illogical structure to a clear and inviting thought, which guides the person, intuitively, without thinking much, through the building. At the same time, great attention must be paid to the possibility of further developments.
In addition, the long-standing theater tradition at the school will also be addressed. The possibility of living theater without having to make spatial improvisations is to be processed. In addition, the new theater will be available for events outside of school hours.
For this purpose, it is also necessary to find sufficient space for a foyer including checkrooms, sanitary facilities and catering. In the existing gymnasium it should be possible to hold sports events outside the school lessons. Here, in addition to the requirement of hospitality, there is also the issue of bleachers and seats for spectators. The additions from around 1970 (gymnasium, library) no longer fit architecturally into today’s times and do not visually carry the idea of the school to the outside world. The school wants to present itself as modern, sustainable and independent.
However, securing the school’s location is the core issue of this task. Where is the journey going? The thoughts lead from the elementary school to the coeducation which can be justified by the collection of the church tax. At the same time, it is of utmost importance to preserve these opportunities at the existing location and not to let anything stand in the way of the natural further development of Borromäum.
