Cable car zellamseeXpress Schmitten

Modern architecture and maximum comfort for the passenger

The new feeder lift with the valley station in Viehhofen, which leads in two sections to the Salersbachköpfl in the panorama and family ski area Schmittenhöhe, now creates the direct connection of the Schmitten with the Glemmtal and thus the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn.

The complex steel structure with a total weight of 170 tons, was developed by Matthias Mösl, m3-ZT GmbH.
The architectural firm Hasenauer Architekten from Saalfelden is responsible for the design of the total of three station buildings (valley, middle and mountain station) of the zellamseeXpress.

With a travel time of just 12 minutes, up to 2,800 people can be transported uphill every hour from the new valley station in Viehhofen in modern 10-seater ropeway cabins. From the top station at Salersbachköpfl, winter sports fans can then enjoy downhill runs or lift connections in all directions and also a unique “view over the edge of the valley” and onto the wintry Zeller See.

While the mountain station on the Salersbachköpfl at 1,920 meters above sea level puts the mountain in the center of attention, the valley station in Viehhofen, planned in a contemporary design, stands for the connection of the two ski areas. The impressive infrastructure building with ticket office and sports store is organized in two floors, the platform level is reached via a comfortable escalator and opens up a spacious boarding area for winter sports enthusiasts. The visual appearance is determined by boldly projecting building parts in conjunction with a transparent building envelope as well as a clearly and concisely organized overall layout. The ride over both sections from Viehhofen to the Salersbachköpfl with panoramic views is completed in less than 12 minutes. In addition to passenger safety and comfort, the planning also focused on meeting modern performance criteria such as energy-efficient drive motors and sustainability aspects through durability and low operating and maintenance costs.
