Renovation home Abersee
From post-war solid house to multi-generation passive house
The home of the Eisl family is located in the farmstead of the Stoffengut zu Farchen in Abersee, approx.100 meters from the shore of Lake Wolfgang. The living and working place, located in the heart of the Salzkammergut, was built in 1956, a good 2 generations ago. Since there were hardly any financial means in the peasant society after the war, this house was put together, among other things, from the remains of the bombed buildings from the city of Salzburg. The building , which has now been renovated as a wooden structure, served for decades as a discharge house, a dwelling for the children who had to leave, a storehouse, a blacksmith’s shop and a workshop.
In addition, there was a small annex on the north side from the 1970s, which was used as a sanitary facility for the adjacent campsite.
After a long struggle about the future of the aging and already dilapidated house, the decision was made in 2009 to preserve the old and quite historic building fabric and to subject it to a complete renovation.
The challenge, however, was to ensure that the current residents would remain virtually unaffected by the renovation work and that their quality of life would also improve as a result of the renovation.
Through the reconstruction of the entire facade and exterior works, it was possible to create a barrier-free entrance to the apartment on the first floor. Since this had already been renovated on the inside in 1990, the old buildings were almost spared the rough gutting of the rest of the building. Only the installation of a living space ventilation and new wooden windows, as they were newly built in the entire building, also affected the preserved apartment in Top 1.
From the almost empty upper floor and the old attic used as storage space, an open and thus light-flooded gallery apartment was created.
In the second part of the first floor, where in the past people worked, hammered and forged, today there is also the working place of the farm, a spacious office for the farm (agriculture, farm cheese dairy, camping). Above the old workshop, now an office was then a company storage room. A second spacious gallery apartment was also created here over two floors.
In summary, the result was a revitalized 3-generation residence with an integrated and equally revitalized workspace for the family business.
