Therapy center bewegungsFELD Faistenau
MULTILOOR WOODEN BUILDING – a place of well-being and regeneration
The nature-inspired bewegungsFELD therapy center of the Wölfle family in Faistenau combines workplaces of 10 therapists, climbing and gymnastics hall and a spacious apartment for a family – all together on three levels.
A very important aspect of the planning was to integrate the building into the landscape in such a way that every level is accessible without barriers.
The “holzius” glue- and metal-free solid timber construction system was used.
ROOM CONCEPT
The basement houses the gymnasium with equipment room, weight room, locker rooms and a kitchenette for meetings, as well as a bolder room. The centerpiece of the house is a high climbing tower, which extends from the basement over all 3 floors up to the roof. Above it is a large elongated window – a light well that literally divides the building – Christoph Mösl’s idea was there – a rock or climbing crevice that you can climb up to.
The middle floor houses several therapy rooms / practices of freelance therapists for physiotherapy, sports physiotherapy, osteopathy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, prenatal and postnatal care, and child and infant therapy.
Two-thirds of the interior walls and room ceilings are wood transparent in spruce and Swiss stone pine , as well as natural clay plaster walls – both of which contribute to health and provide a temporary place of well-being for clients.
On the upper floor , the residential unit looks like a single-family house complete with a spacious terrace, whereby the design with the solid wood elements assumes an integrative function for the building’s appearance.
FULL WOOD WALLS
A burr strip with edges in the shape of a dovetail is the patented core of this unique design from holzius – a South Tyrolean patent. This makes it possible to build with solid wood elements without glue and metal, with guaranteed dimensional stability and permanent airtightness, without the use of foils, and without visible fasteners. The solid wood walls achieve a high load-bearing capacity due to their design as a multi-layer standing block, which means that even multi-storey buildings can be constructed without settling.
This type of all-wood construction takes into account every aspect of building biology and sustainability. This includes that no foils and no vapor barriers are installed in the wall elements. Construction chemicals are not used at all, and the natural growth direction of the tree is taken into account in the manufacture of holzius elements.
Weather-resistant larch shingles and rough-sawn larch sheathing form the building envelope and protect the solid wood walls below from the elements.
ECOLOGY
A solid wood house has an almost unlimited life. In this all-wood house, walls and ceilings are made entirely without glue and metals.
In addition, there is no need for films and vapor barriers in the walls, which are otherwise common in the industry.
Any disposal thus enables a return to the ecosystem. The eco-balance is therefore very good. In addition, wood binds CO2 from the air and stores it sustainably for the time of use. Only in the case of return to nature does the CO2 re-enter the atmosphere.
The wood used for the solid wood elements comes from the Himmelberg region of Carinthia.
Through the use of an air source heat pump and a solar system, the Faistenau Therapy Center is considered almost self-sufficient in energy.
REALIZATION
The already prefabricated building elements (interior and exterior walls Fa. holzius) were assembled after Easter 2020. Due to the high level of technical planning in advance by m3-ZT and the professional competence of the client in terms of construction coordination, enabled a rapid construction time and completion. The commissioning of the new therapy center took place in November 2020.
