Residential house Abersee

COMMITTED TO TRADITION AND THE NEXT GENERATION

In the case of the single-family house in Abersee, traditional living forms and elements were interpreted in a modern way and translated into the twenty-first century. In an alpine environment with predominantly traditional construction methods, a single-family home was built with glue- and metal-free solid wood elements – and without visible fasteners. Not only the solid wood walls, but also the framed walls as well as the ceiling structures were manufactured completely without glue. For the rear-ventilated, natural facade , a combination of larch wood shingles used over a large area and rough-sawn larch wood sheathing was chosen.

The residential building has four levels including the basement. The basement made of precast concrete elements is topped by the barrier-free first floor and the upper and attic floors, whose structures are made entirely of wooden elements. Only ecological material was also used for the insulation: Cellulose for the purlin roof truss and the interior walls in timber framed walls, a glue-free wood fiber insulation for the facade. As a heating system , a tiled stove was installed on the first floor of the residential building. This enables the heating of the entire building cubature through the connection to the buffer tank. The system is supplemented by a photovoltaic system, which is used for hot water, among other things.

During planning, in addition to the client’s requirement to use only natural materials for the highest possible healthy living climate , an extension for a two-family house also had to be taken into account. The future extension can thus be realized easily, quickly and without changes to the existing building.

Ecology, sustainability and healthy living:

  • Solid wood construction with glue- and metal-free wood elements in visible design by holzius

  • Solid wood ceilings with glue- and metal-free wood elements in exposed finish from holzius

  • First floor barrier-free, extension into a two-family house easily possible without changing the structure

  • Purlin roof truss with cellulose insulation

  • Facade: with sawed, vertical larch wood formwork and larch shingles arranged over the entire surface, natural weathering, no chemical wood preservation, insulation with glue-free wood fiber insulation

  • Wooden windows, wooden doors, heating with tiled stove and photovoltaic system

  • No use of PU foam in the complete house

  • Energy index 20 kWh/m2a
